Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group’s late show at the Royal Scots Club, Lucy Kirkwood’s The Children, is a bleak and thoughtful look at everyday life in the wake of a disaster, and the choices its survivors must make.

Opening in the ordinary-looking home of sexagenarian couple Hazel (Wendy Mathison) and Robin (Richard Godden), the lights come up on Rose (Hilary Spiers), an old friend of a similar age who has dropped in. “How are the children?” she asks, attempting to stem the nosebleed that has strained her blouse.

REVIEW: Chef (Traverse Theatre)

Traverse:  Fri 14 Mar 2025 Review by Rebecca Mahar Sabrina Mahfouz’s  Chef , starring Rebecca Benson, plays the Traverse for one night only in a production that crackles with energy and is a showcase for Benson’s solo performance. Chef  premiered at Edinburgh Fringe in 2014, garnering several awards. Director André Agius’s touring revival of the piece for the Ayr Gaiety takes full advantage of Benson’s skill, taking her to emotional extremes in the performance of the character known only as “Chef”.
